Pottery by Levi Mahan

Second Generation potter from Seagrove, NC working in Red Hook, NYC

I made my first pot on the wheel at the age of 2. Despite the help of my parents, both potters, it was terrible. I like to think I’m getting better every day.

Process

My work for the past decade has been predominantly fired in my father’s wood kiln in Seagrove, NC. I developed glazes based off of local NC clays and wood ash from my stove. In then fall of 2022, I moved to Brooklyn and got started shifting my work to accommodate my urban setting. I still wood fire when possible and continue to focus on local materials.
